About Salas Living
Hi, I'm Mary

I’ve been journaling since I first learned to write, and in 1998, I took my first disposable camera to church camp. That was the beginning of a lifelong passion for both writing and photography.
Over the years, motherhood has shifted my creative focus from entrepreneurship to nurturing my creativity within our home. My desire to stay home with my children has only deepened my commitment to honoring God through my creativity, all while serving my family.

Who We Are
I met my husband when I was 17, and I knew right away he was “the one.” Though it took us a few years to find our footing, God brought us together in His perfect timing. In 2015, we became the Salas family, and over the years, we’ve learned that striving for a life of solace means living a life centered around Christ.
The name “Salas” is pronounced like solace (sah-lus), and I can’t help but see God’s goodness even in that sweet detail. As a family, we (imperfectly) aim to foster a lifestyle of intention and connection in every aspect of our lives.
Our Roots
Born and raised in Northern California until the very end of 2017. We found ourselves nestled in the tall wooded forest of Western Washington and called that home for 4 years. In January of 2022 we arrived in Tulsa, Oklahoma and have been slowly acclimating, digging roots. “We’ll see where the Lord continues to plant, or move us!”
Proverbs 16:9
Home
Our life has centered around making a home, wherever we are. We’ve lived in 11 homes since being married (including two different RV campers), and my goal has always been to create an atmosphere we want to be in. Home-making, home-schooling, home-birthing… everything we do is at home. Our environment plays a huge role in our family culture.
Eats & Drinks
We’re big on food and drinks around here. Daniel would be the ideal barista in a coffee shop (who knows, maybe we’ll open our own). We make our own syrups from fresh fruit, enjoy homemade breads, and we have too much fun playing barista when our friends come over. We both grew up on delicious food on the West Coast, and have always enjoyed experimenting in the kitchen.
Hobbies
In California, we did a lot of coffee shop hopping, eating out, and photography. In Washington we logged countless hours hiking the wooded or mountain trails. In Oklahoma, we’ve really nestled ourselves at home and in our community. I enjoy embroidery, reading, being with friends, going on long walks, exploring new places as a family, and learning new skills.

My goal is to help you find beauty in the ordinary, joy in the everyday, and contentment in your circumstances, all while fostering a life of intention and connection. I believe in the power of creating with our hands, letting go of the rush for instant gratification, and making a home that reflects love and thoughtfulness.
Whether it’s in sharing about homeschooling, making a home, or my favorite everyday things… I hope your time here leaves you feeling inspired to try new things, love your family well, and embrace a slower, more intentional way of living that fosters connection with those you love.
Soli Deo Gloria,
Mary
